There has been a recent widespread speculations that Senator Victor Umeh, former Senator Representing Anambra Central Senatorial District who was believed to be contesting for the Senator Seat is currently biding for the 2023 Presidential race.
Senator Victor Umeh seem to be heavily projected for the Presidency and as a voice of the Igbos which the lack of his Presence at the Senate had created vacuum for the Igbo. Many has argued that if so be it, the voice of the Igbos shouldn’t be contesting for the Senate seat of a selected few (Anambra Central) but the Igbos in General.
In what Hon. Comr. Asikason Jonathan termed “Victor Umeh and the Fallacy of Voice Ndigbo”
He stated that “Repeatedly, hired spin-doctors and vuvuzelas have argued that Ndigbo lost a voice in Chief (Sir)Victor Umeh’s failure to return to the 9th Assembly. Hence, they pleaded on him to throw his hat in the ring for the next occupant of the seat of Anambra Central at the Red Chamber come 2023.
While such theatrics comes with the territory of politics and elections in Nigeria, it is appalling that Umeh’s media managers failed to notice the pettiness of their logic and why it cannot flow.
No doubt, Umeh during his excursus in Senate was not a benchwarmer but his performance was neither mesmerizing nor sterling to be described as ‘the voice of Ndigbo’ at the chamber.
He further threw up a big question regarding what happened to his voice outside the Senate or is it “only in the senate that Umeh can function as the voice of Ndigbo?”
A voice is a voice irrespective of position or office. That Umeh had gone dumb on many issues affecting Ndigbo in the national politics vitiate the above argument.
In the same light, AIF media has argued that Senator Victor Umeh is not the voice of the Igbos and is not any way missed by the Igbos. For AIF media,
If Ndigbo truly missed Senator Victor Umeh as his boys and political jobbers are claiming, he should declare to contest for 2023 president. Its the turn of Ndigbo.
If truly he is our best,
How can the so called mouth piece of Ndigbo, the best Igbo leader, the most vocal Igbo politician, the only man who can speak for Ndigbo according to his paid noise makers be jostling to go to senate instead going for the plum job.
How can our best be eyeing senate instead of Aso Rock?
AIF Media further advised that,
We want our bests to go for president. Umeh should stop disturbing ndi Anambra central and join the race at the national level.
Let him start touring states. Go to southwest, south south and north to convince them to consider onye Igbo for president in 2023.
Our leaders ought to be pushing our presidential agenda to other regions and not buying political jobbers and clowns to make stupid noise that you are best leader in igboland to go senate.
His boys are not even saying he is the best from Anambra central, but they are claiming he is the best from igboland and Tinubu is shaking everywhere for 2023 president and Umeh’s voice is not heard.
Let’s start campaigning for Umeh for President 2023.
