
Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Sultanate Council of Sokoto Speaks on The Alleged ‘Murder’ Of Sokoto Student, Deborah

The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto and Sultanate Council of Sokoto have reacted to the ‘gruesome murder’ of Deborah Yakubu, a 200 level Home Economics Student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.
Deborah who was killed as a result of a voice note which was alleged to be a blasphemy on the prophet has generated a lot of concerns.
In a video showing how Deborah was killed, it will be clearly seen that Deborah was not only stoned and matcheted, she was also set ablaze.
Reacting to the incident, the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto in a statement signed by Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah have condemned the “incident in the strongest terms” and “have called on the authorities to investigate this tragedy and ensure that all the culprits are brought to book.”
He further called on all Christians to remain calm and pray for the repose of the departed.
In the same light, the Sultanate Council of Sokoto (Sultans Palace) in a statement signed by Sa’idu Muhammadu Maccido, Danburan Sokoto, Secretary Sultanate Council of Sokoto has condemned the incident and called on “security agencies to bring the perpetrators of the unjustifiable incident to justice”
He further “urged all to remain calm and ensure peaceful coexistence.”
