
Confusion In Court As Abba Kyari’s Co-defendants Plead Guilty and Abba Kyari Pleads Not Guilty To Drug Trafficking Charges
Two co-defendants of Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari, on Monday pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges levelled against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Umeibe and Ezenwanne were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State and alleged to have been working with Abba Kyari. They today, pleaded guilty to the drug trafficking charges levelled against them.
According to reports, Abba Kyari and his police co-defendants had pleaded “not guilty” to the charge, the 6th and 7th defendants, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, pleaded guilty.
On 14 February 2022, a video clip of Kyari negotiating the release of seized cocaine was released to the press by the NDLEA. Kyari was seen offering a $61,000 bribe in cash to an NDLEA agent.
Earlier, he had been linked in a fraud scandal involving Popular alleged fraudster Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
Hushpuppi is currently facing charges of money laundering in the United States and Kyari is expected to be extradited to the United States.
