Nigerian music superstar, Eedris Abdulkareem, has said that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government will soon start arresting Nigerians for speaking Ìgbò.
Abdulkareem, who was once a member of the hip-hop group, The Remedies, before going on to have a successful solo career, aired this view while condemning the recent arrest of veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu.
Agu was reportedly arrested on Thursday, October 07, by troops of the Nigerian Army in Onitsha for wearing Biafra regalia.
According to the Nigerian Army, the actor was arrested for inciting members of the public and soliciting support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a post on his Instagram page, Eedris Abdulkareem said Agu deserved to be honoured in the Ìgbò-dominated Southeast for his brave act.
“No matter the kind of film Chiwetalu Agu acts he’s more wise and brave than other actors in the East and must be honoured,” he said.
“People will soon be arrested for speaking Ìgbò in Nigeria.”
