The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has placed the Anambra State Governor, Governor Willie Obiano on her watchlist ahead of the March 16, 2022 change of government in the State as sitting governors in Nigeria have immunity from criminal prosecution while in office.
According to report, the sitting Governor of Anambra State, Governor Willie Obiano is one of the Governor’s on the watchlist of the commission.
In a letter dated November 15, 2021 and addressed to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the commission requested the service to place the sitting Anambra State Governor on a watch list and inform them anytime he is travelling out of the country from any of the international airports and other points of entry and exit.
It is not clear why the Economic and Financial Crimes agency has placed the governor on security watch but sources said the move is an indication that the commission may have been discreetly investigating him and possibly have intelligence that he plans to escape after he hands over power to his successor, Prof Charles Soludo.
Recall that after the just concluded Anambra Governorship Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had declared Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo the winner of the Governorship Election. He is to be swornin in March 2022 should the court petitions against him be in his favor
