Just In: How a 21-story building collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria
Many are feared to be trapped after a 21-story building located in the city’s affluent Ikoyi neighborhood which is a construction site for luxury apartments collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria today, Monday, Novermber 1 2021.
Olu Apata, a nearby resident and the president of the Nigerian Bar Association explained that he thought it was an earthquake when the building fell. He said the building has has been under construction for the past two years and that the developer was at the site meeting with prospective buyers earlier on Monday.
Hours after the collapse, hundreds of people were milling around the site, helplessly surveying slabs of concrete piled high in a heap. There are no excavators at the site and locals are digging through the wreckage by hand.
Some in the crowd were furious that an official emergency response had not started.
Instead, rescue efforts were being carried out by passersby as of the time of filling this report. The Nigerian Red Cross is also now at the scene.

Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell
