Today, on the Facebook wall of Nnamdi Patrick we found a trending story of the deplorable State of Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha.
This is coming few day after we shared a story on the New Beautiful Look of 97 Year Old Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha
The story was also followed with wreched pictures of the school.
It was sad seeing Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha which had produced a lot of professionals in that condition.
The school below:
ADO GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL, ONITSHA: A PITY TO BEHOLD.
Gory, sad, scary, disgusting and unhealthy..these words are nothing close to describing the state of things at the once glorious ADO GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL, Onitsha.
The entire school is a disgrace to the distinguished legacies she has left behind. Imagine walking into the classrooms and seeing students struggling to sweep off the water logged in the unbelievable classrooms. The library, the principal’s office, the laboratory, the hall and nearly every building in the school is leaking and some are even without roofs!
No toilets, no water, no electricity and no roofs!!!!
School should start by 8:00am, but these kids have to spend about 2 hours trying to dry out their various classrooms before classes can commence.
Ojiegbu Goldie and Yung-Mhelly Paul Hugochukwu were left in shock as we tried to maneuver our way through the flooded hallways and classrooms.
The principal, Pastor Mrs Augustina Agubuisi, a native of Ogbeozalla village of Onitsha, was full of lamentations and cries. She said she had written to the appropriate authorities countless times and yet nothing was done.
The school was repainted years ago, by her husband and then some notable citizens contributed to repair on of the roofs of a block of classrooms.
She complained that they had written to the Obi of Onitsha, the LGA authority and to the headquarters of the state education board, but on each occasion, they were told to sort themselves out.
One thing that bothers me, is that most of the buildings have the names of some indigenous politicians inscribed on them.
On asking, we were made to understand that these politicians came to the school after being invited to come and see things for themselves and probably help out, but after they toured the school, they made pledges and asked for their names to be in the walls.
Mr. Nwora also came, cried dramatically about the challenges the school faced and promised to help with some renovations..he never showed up again!
The immediate former LGA chairman, now a commissioner, was called upon and all he did was to paint his name on a block and paint the name of his wife’s boutique on another.
One Engr. Ernest Adinweruka, a fmr. SA in the Obiano administration, was given the contract to renovate some parts of the school but less than a year later, the buildings were back to their sorry state.
What happened?
Mr Engr obviously used cheap materials and diverted the rest of the funds for personal use.
Ado girls, is the only school in Onitsha that bears the identity of our ancient kingdom and it’s sad that the palace is just beside the school, yet nothing has been done by the OIU or the OYC.
The lives and health of these kids and their teachers are at risk and something must be done.
Before we begin to ask if the old girls association are not aware of the situation and whether or not the PTA are doing well…. remember this..it’s a government school first, before any other sentiments.
We’ll be organising a rally soon, to address this issue and trust me, every single politician who has ignored the petitions and appeals of these students, shall be called out.
