
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC reacts to Umahi’s Removal As Governor Of Ebonyi State
The Nigeria Electoral Umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reacted to the court ruling that sacked Governor Dave Umahi, Executive Governor of Ebonyi State.
In her reaction, Festus Okoye, INEC Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed that INEC has not receive copies of the judgment from the court and would only take action against Umahi after receiving certified documents from the court on the court ruling.
Recall, that few day ago, An Abuja Federal High Court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo had yesterday sacked Umahi and his deputy. Subsequently, all Imo State Assembly Members that moved from PDP to APC were also sacked from office according to the judgment.
In his judgement, Justice Inyang Ekwo had ruled that Umahi can not transfer the votes that got him into power under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, into the All Progressives Congress, APC and as such, the judge had order that the PDP should send names of their to replacement to INEC
