Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has said the details of the ongoing investigations of the immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, will not be disclosed to the public.
Recall that the Ex-Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Thursday Night at Lagos International Airport, few hours after his official handover and transferred to their Abuja office, have been in the Commissions custody.
According to Information gathered from Premium Times, Mr Bawa had said in Abuja while attending to questions from reporters at the 5th Annual General Assembly of the Network of National Anti-corruption institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) that Investigations on the Ex-Governor cannot be made public.
He made this statement when asked to update the public on the details of the ongoing investigations of the former governor as they have been accused of conducting a media trail:
“I don’t know what update you want me to give, because you have been accusing us of media trials, and you want me to say we are doing this and that. No, we (EFCC) would not do that. We would continue to do our investigation professionally as we have been doing,” he said.
He further dismissed the claim that the former governor’s arrest was “politically-motivated.”
Mr Bawa also said the commission had granted an administrative bail to Mr Obiano but the ex-governor had yet to meet the bail conditions.
Earlier before his official handover, the commission had placed him on their watchlist and hours after his handover, he was arrested at the Lagos International Airport and transferred to their Abuja office.
